Hope from Helen

It’s that time of year again — no, not for Black Friday shopping cart melees or 5:00 AM holiday shopping marathons, but for Wrightsville Beach, NC’s, finest charitable event, the Hope From Helen Surf Silent Auction Presented By WBLiveSurf.com and the Board Retailers Association. 2009 marks the fifth year of the Hope From Helen event, established in 2005 by Sweetwater Surf Shop managing partner/ WBLiveSurf.com owner Tony Butler to honor his mother Helen, who passed away after a courageous battle with lung and breast cancer.

This year’s event goes Friday, December 3th, at Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach, from 6:30-9:30 PM. As if you needed more reason to go, admission is totally free, Tower 7 Restaurant will provide food for the event and live musical guests. Along with the lengthy list of items up for auction — think surfboards, artwork, photographs, jewelry, vacation packages, skateboards, snowboards, shoes, bicycles, shopping sprees, and much more — there will also be a raffle with hundreds of prizes given away throughout the evening.

Hope From Helen is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity that, over the last half-decade, has raised a staggering $145,000 for a slew of local and national charities, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Cancer Society, PAWS Place, New Hanover Humane Society, SurfAid, Life Rolls On, Buddy Pelletier Surfing Foundation, Surfers Healing, Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter, North Carolina Land Trust, Martin Fucci Fund, ALS Foundation, Sunburst Foundation, Southport Oak Island Animal Rescue, Surfrider Foundation, Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project, Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital, Pink Ribbon Project, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, and Bantful Kindergarten Project.
